Day 3: Be Specific

“And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him” (Matt. 6:7, 8, NKJV).

Pray Specifically

God answers specific prayers. He invites us to approach Him with clear, detailed needs. For instance, our son, Ovidiu, needed a team to dig a foundation hole for his home but struggled to find one at an affordable price. Initially, he prayed generically, but when he began praying for this specific need, God provided a remarkable solution: A neighbor introduced him to a team already working nearby, and they completed the job for a fraction of the cost.

Ellen G. White explains:

- “Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend” (Steps to Christ, p. 93).

When we pray, God calls us to converse with Him, presenting our needs clearly and trusting His wisdom and timing. By being specific in our prayers, we strengthen our faith and see God’s hand working in detailed ways.

Prayer Time (30–45 Minutes)

Spend time in united prayer, using short conversational prayers (1–3 sentences).

Suggested themes include:

1. Matt. 6:7, 8

- “Do not use vain repetitions”: Ask God to refresh your prayer life, making it heartfelt and meaningful.

- *“Your Father knows the things you have need of”*: Trust God with your deepest concerns, knowing He understands even unspoken needs.

2. Other Suggestions

- Thanks and Praise: Celebrate blessings and God’s goodness.

- Confession: Take time for private confession and gratitude for forgiveness.

- Guidance: Seek wisdom for challenges and decisions.

- Church and Local Needs: Pray for both regional and local issues.

- Listening: Pause to hear God’s voice and respond in praise.
